Or, almost all of those games have military themes and shaved, or close cropped hair is a very common military hairstyle. So yes, I love modern marketing. It's pretty realistic, actually.
Jeez how long since your last blog? Update or something already!
Also probably not nice to say but have you ever noticed you can't but help getting offended over nearly everything? In some ways i don't mind some of it but i can't help think that in some ways at least with chauvanism you seem to blindly look at things as that that you don't look beyond that sole thing or you don't try to understand it from another point since you're so dead set on it. Maybe it's an unfair call but it's like tunnel vision. You are so set on seeing something as misogynist that it's all you see.
The main character in AVP was black as was the first main character in crysis and i think even the 2nd main character that you see in crysis 2 was hispanic but we never see his face. That skinhead character you show from gears of war if i remember correctly is actually asian in origin but he's not the main character (skinheads have to be white). I think they also had a 50 cent game though i think black people should be represented more than just by their rappers. I also remember seeing a saints row game with a female playable character in some gameplay. Then you have games like mirror's edge and remember me which feature female main character. Lara croft has also become less busty. I think on dakka the discussion went that just because a female is pretty in a game shouldn't be considering misogyny. I mean it's like i saw somewhere else about how barbie was seen as unfair but boys' toys had he-man which is a god of a man. I mean i don't see an army of half naked men in '300' as sexist against men.
I dunno i think you need to cool your jets melissia. Sometimes you have a point but sometimes you exaggerate a bit. We all make problems bigger than they are at some point.

You're telling this to the person who thought Duke Nukem Forever was a good, amusing game? And had no problems with it aside from wishing it was longer and wishing it didn't have the two-weapon limitation introduced by Halo?
I don't get offended at "nearly everything". That said, you need to be blind to not notice the trend that almost all games produced in the USA are populated primarily by young white guys, far outweighing that particular group's actual presence among the gaming culture.
You list a few notable counter-examples but it still remains that the overwhelming majority of protagonists are generic, foregettable white guys.

Also FKM, how many times do I have to tell you I neither like you nor respect you in any way? Seriously, you're a creepy douchebag stalker who got banned for being a creepy douchebag stalker, leave me alone already.

ReplyDeleteSo you're saying depicting black soldiers is unrealistic?
